All About Toenail Fungus
Toenail fungus is basically the coloration of the nail and further leading to breaking of the nail. This is referred to as Onychomycosis. These funguses are neither animals nor plants. Their size can vary from minute size to large sized mushroom. They depend on other substrate for their food supplements. This is because this fungus infection can lead to the complete loss of the nail.
The main part of the nail being affected is the nail plate. This is the hardest part of the nail, made up of keratin. Keratin is basically a continuum of connective tissues and dead matter. So the fungal infection affect on this hard part making it soft, thereby fulfilling its food requirements. There are some reasons for the fungal attack: applying nail paint on the nail, use of chemicals, improper diet.
Fungal infection will increase if it is left untreated and will cause more damage to the surrounding tissues. As the nail is being covered with dead cells, the body is unable to fight with infection. For the treatment of toenail infection, some antifungal medication needs to be done. Depending on the infection, additional treatment methods are needed and to fight with this infection.
